Zipgig is a booking platform for artists and venues to book live gigs with each other, without a middleman or booking agent. We regularly feature our artists on our Spotlight series.
This week, we are featuring Icons of Industry, an Austin, TX based musical collective started by theologian and songwriter Roberto Montoya.
Together with Grammy award-winning drummer Johnny Lopez III, classically trained violinist Megan Berson, seasoned bassist Greg Pasquariello, and multi-instrumentalist Robert Crown, they create dynamic and atmospheric rock and electronic music.
Icons of Industry plays around Austin and beyond. Their first show with their new line up is on July 22nd at 8PM at Mueller Lake Park and will be featured on the Indie Live Austin show’s Backyard Concert Series.

What genre of music do you most identify with and what is your musical style?
Experimental rock and electronic music. Our diverse experience and background allows us to weave Classical, Latin, and other styles into our music.
Do you write your own music and lyrics or do primarily covers?
We primarily write, record, and perform our own music. We do have a small number of covers that allow us to showcase our style.
What is your creative process?
We like to improvise during rehearsal and record our sessions. Then we begin to develop any ideas that pique our interest. Sometimes, one of us will bring an idea or even a fully developed song and then we begin to shape it using everyone’s contributions.
How long has the band been together, what brought you together?
Roberto and Johnny have been writing and recording for over 3 years as Icons of Industry. We’ve gone through a few line-up changes with other musicians and have recently welcomed Robert Crown, Greg Pasquariello, and Megan Berson to the collective.
Where are you based out of, where do you play, and in what type of venues?
We are based out of Austin, TX and have our first show with our new line up on July 22nd at Mueller Lake Park. We’ll be featured on the Indie Live Austin show’s Backyard Concert Series.
What inspires you as a band/musician/artist?
Roberto’s lyrics are inspired by his background and experience as a Christian theologian. We draw inspiration from wanting to create music that draws the listener into the stories we create lyrically and sonically.
If you had to identify with a famous musician or band, who would it be?
Is Texas a good place for you to promote your unique sound?
I think so.
How do you connect with your audience?
We primarily connect with our recordings and music videos but we hope to start performing live more this summer and beyond.
When people leave your show, what is it that you hope they will say about you?
That we left a lasting impression and our music was uplifting, exciting, and thought-provoking.
Looking forward to listening to Icon of Industry’s uplifting music!
